Birthday parties are supposed to be fun and a no-brainer. However, sometimes you have to help a little bit to make it happen. Especially if you organise a surprise birthday party for someone and the guests don’t know each other. It is a good idea to have something easy prepared – just in case.
Firstly, you have to ask yourself a few questions. For example, who are you preparing for? Will there be kids to entertain as well? What are people’s interests? These kind of questions will you to determine what you are in for. If you got a mix of all kinds of people, it is advisable to prepare a few smaller things for different interests – all of which can be prepared easily beforehand – not needing any effort from your side throughout the party.
1. Special Spirits for Adults
There are usually a few people, mostly man though, who are into drinks. If you are expecting a few whiskey connoisseurs, then you will easily entertain them with one or two niche bottles. Presenting them with some ice and glasses, the conversation among them will need no further spark. They are set for the evening, conversing about flavours, tastes and vintages. This also works with craft beers and cocktails for the ladies.
2. Games for the Kids
Remember when you were a kid and your parents dragged you along to a birthday party of someone you never heard of? Well, you are probably doing the same with your kids now. If you are expecting a few kids to be there, you should make sure they are entertained too – otherwise their parents won’t have a good time. Instead of putting them in front on a TV or iPad, you can prepare a few board games or even pencils and paper for the younger ones. Once again, there is nothing else you have to do throughout the party.
3. Get a Theme
If you want to make some effort beforehand – it is totally worth it – you can turn the birthday party into a themed party. Be sure to let your guests know in advance. Here is an entire article on how to do a themed birthday party.
4. Food Entertainment
It is often forgotten that food is one of the best ways to entertain and can hold every party together. So don’t simple serve food for people to eat, make an event of it. There are several ways to go about it – depending on the crowd and occasion. If you have an intimate and more sophisticated crowd, you can ask a private chef to do the cooking for you. Opt for live BBQ catering, if you are celebrating with family and friends.
5. Curated Playlists
Music is key. If there is the awkward moment of silence, a well-curated music playlist will save you. Get the right music for the occasion – be it some Bossa Nova in the background or something more funky to get your guests moving.
