The opening of the 3rd annual Epicurean Market is a story of chefs becoming rock stars. Forget about the notion that chefs are hidden in kitchen. The chefs are the main attraction of the show and were presented that way. The stars of the day were driven into the convention centre of Marina Bay Sands on nothing less than motorbikes from Harley Davidson.
After a speech by Tamir Shanel (VP of F&B Marina Bay Sands) honouring sponsors, restaurants and media, such as Clubvivre‘s Bon Vivant, the chefs were rolled in and onto the stage. Local and international star chefs, from Nancy Silverton and David Meyers to Justin Quek and Tetsuya Wakuda, talked about the significance and the impact that the Epicurean Market had in the past years and highlighted the culinary delights that are lining up for the weekend. “It is fascinating to see how the event has grown over the years and we are thrilled to present new dishes at this year’s event”, says Nancy Silverton.

One aspect that makes the Epicurean Market truly special for Singapore and its citizens is the direct contact with the celebrity chefs from around the world. Stars such as Gordon Ramsay and others are not only attending to represent their respective restaurants and some photo opportunities, but give master classes and have live cooking events. How about getting a bite to eat that has been cooked right in front of you by your favourite chef? Not only the media loves this experience, but also culinary fanatics, fine dining enthusiasts and local foodies.
Epicurean Market at Home
However, food fans don’t need to wait all year for their hands-on cooking experience. Singapore and its dining in trend have already created an intimate relationship between local chefs and diners. Hundreds of Singaporean homes are already inviting chefs to cook for them at home. Be it a BBQ with friends and family in your backyard or on your terrace or a birthday or anniversary party – experienced restaurant and private chefs are cooking, presenting and cleaning at one’s house, just like in a real restaurant.
The Epicurean Market is not only a showcase of culinary expertise, but gives you a glimpse of what you can do with a chef at home. As Singapore is lining up this weekend to receive culinary treats from the kitchen greats, one can recreate the same excitement with dining in. Let them serve you!
