Our favourite Restaurant Week is back! This october, Restaurant Week promises to treat gourmands in Singapore to the ‘Sinfully Delectable’ and has garnered over 100 participating restaurants to kick off the week-long dining affair. What else can you expect besides great meals at reasonable prices? Here are 3 things you might not know about this 11th and latest edition.
So, you might already know the drill. The city’s top dining establishments will be offering 3-course menus at special prices of $25++ and $35++ for lunch and dinner respectively. DiningCity Star-Awarded restaurants will charge an additional $15++ for lunch and $20++ for dinner. Reservations for specific time slots and restaurants can be made conveniently online at www.restaurantweek.sg.
What’s different this time round, you may ask?
1. Giving back to the needy
In collaboration with The Food Bank Singapore – a registered charity that collects surplus food to be redistributed to organisations and people in need – the good folks behind Singapore Restaurant Week, DiningCity, will be launching a new social responsibility campaign: Two-Bucks-For-A-Truck.
The goal is to raise $100,000, which will be used to convert a truck into a mobile food pantry. This would aid the charity when it makes its distribution rounds around the island.
How does the donation work? Participating restaurants will donate up to $2 per Restaurant Week booking. The progress of the fund-raising will be tracked on the TRIKKLE-Funding platform by CrozzBorderz. Everyone is of course invited to donate directly to the project, as TRIKKLE facilities offer both online and SMS payment. So let’s go and eat for a good cause.
2. Book Restaurant Week chefs home
Enjoyed the meal? Want to have another experience? Or do you simply want to test the chefs before? There is a way to do so. Some of the participating chefs of the restaurant week, such as Jean-Philippe Patruno of UNA, Javed Ahamad of Punjab Grill, Edward Hoe of Violet Herbs, are available outside their restaurants.
Does that mean those chefs come to cook at my house? Yes, exactly that! This comes in handy when you failed to make a reservation for all your friends throughout the week. Jean-Philippe Patruno is not only the executive chef at UNA, but also available as a private chef. This new dining-in trend allows anyone to book a chef and let him or her cook at their house. Already more than 70 executive and head chefs from Singapore’s restaurants are part of it.
Not only will American Express Card Members enjoy priority booking (from 18. September 2015 onwards), there are also a 3D2N staycation and several retail vouchers worth $1,500 to be won by the all the participating guests throughout the week. No matter in which restaurant you will be eating, you be taking part in the giveaway as soon as the payment is made at the respective restaurants.
Note: All American Express Cards issued by American Express International Inc. in Singapore, including American Express Cards issued by DBS Bank Limited, United Overseas Bank Limited, Citibank Singapore Limited and/or EZ-Link Pte Ltd (excluding American Express Corporate Cards), are eligible to participate in the Lucky Draw.
